The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) represents a tri-service entity within the Armed Forces, dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of Armed Forces personnel, their dependents, ex-servicemen and their dependents. Additionally, it undertakes various tasks assigned by the government concerning health and medical care. AFMS plays a pivotal role in the Post Graduate training of doctors within the Armed Forces Medical Services, addressing the specialized requirements essential for comprehensive healthcare. Any surplus seats resulting from this training program are made available to sponsored candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries, Para-military organizations, other government entities in India, ex-servicemen (specifically Ex-SSC AFMS officers), and civilian doctors.
Civilian doctors who secure admission to postgraduate courses at AFMS institutions are obligated to serve a tenure of five years within AFMS. This commitment underscores the mutually beneficial relationship between AFMS and civilian medical professionals, contributing to the enhancement of healthcare expertise and service delivery within the Armed Forces.
